On Friday, 15 January 2016, in the morning at 7:42, in Širvintų district municipality, on the Širvintos–Bagaslaviškis–Kaliakiemiai regional road (kilometre 1.03), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Volvo V40 and an Audi 80. Three people were injured — the 31-year-old driver of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient), the 27-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized) and a 2-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 31-year-old driver of the Volvo (13 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the weather was clear, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
