On Sunday, 17 January 2016, at night at around 2:00, in Utenos district municipality, on the Utena–Sudeikiai–Alaušas–Dusetos regional road (kilometre 7.90), a Mercedes-Benz E270 registered in Great Britain ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.96‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
