On Wednesday, 10 February 2016, in the afternoon at 11:46, in Vilniaus district municipality, Didžiosios Riešės village, on Molėtų street, at the junction with Veneros street, a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Opel Vivaro and a Peugeot 607 registered in Great Britain. One person died — a 73-year-old passenger of the Opel. Three people were injured — the 47-year-old driver of the Opel (hospitalized), the 45-year-old driver of the Peugeot (treated as an outpatient) and a 68-year-old passenger of the Opel (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 47-year-old driver of the Opel (29 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.09‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
