On Thursday, 5 May 2016, at night at 2:32, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Šiauliai–Gruzdžiai–Naujoji Akmenė national road, a Peugeot 205 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the Peugeot, who committed other traffic rule violations and failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
