On Monday, 18 July 2016, in the evening at around 19:00, in Šilalės district municipality, Maldūnų village, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (k. pusė) main road (kilometre 217), an Opel Astra ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Opel (8 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
