On Saturday, 29 October 2016, at night at 3:30, in Lazdijų district municipality, on the Leipalingis–Lazdijai–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 5.31), a Volkswagen Golf ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 17-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.16‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
