On Saturday, 3 December 2016, in the evening at 19:34, in Birštono municipality, on the Vilnius–Prienai–Marijampolė main road (kilometre 89), a Volkswagen Passat hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by a 48-year-old pedestrian, who was walking at night without reflectors (light, hi-vis vest). She was drunk (2.26‰ blood alcohol). The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
