On Saturday, 25 February 2017, in the afternoon at 13:59, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Leipalingis–Lazdijai–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 49.30), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Subaru Forester. Two people were injured — a 44-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized) and a 34-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 24-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (6 years of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules, failed to keep a safe distance, failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
