On Sunday, 26 February 2017, at night at around 2:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 108.15), a collision while turning right occurred. The collision involved a Seat Cordoba and a Peugeot 307. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 32-year-old driver of the Seat, who committed other traffic rule violations and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.36‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
