On Thursday, 25 May 2017, in the afternoon at 14:26, in Panevėžio district municipality, on the Anykščiai–Troškūnai–Panevėžys national road (kilometre 52.83), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a BMW 316I, an Opel Meriva, a DAF TE95XF, a Benalu and a Land Rover Freelander. Two people died — a 6-year-old passenger of the Opel and the 26-year-old driver of the Opel. The accident was caused by the 18-year-old driver of the BMW (less than a year of driving experience), who violated cargo-transport rules. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
