On Sunday, 9 July 2017, in the evening at 20:10, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Kaunas–Prienai–Alytus national road (kilometre 54.22), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volvo S80, an Opel Vectra, a Volkswagen Golf and a Ford Mondeo. Three people were injured — a 18-year-old passenger of the Ford (treated as an outpatient), a 63-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized) and a 19-year-old passenger of the Ford (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the Volvo (6 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
