On Saturday, 23 September 2017, in the morning at 5:18, in Mažeikių district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 1.70), an Audi A6 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the Audi (2 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, there was fog, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
