On Sunday, 12 November 2017, in the evening at 20:40, in Telšių district municipality, on the Rietavas–Tverai–Varniai regional road (kilometre 29.30), a Volvo registered in Russia ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 54-year-old driver of the Volvo (12 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
