On Monday, 4 December 2017, in the evening at 22:26, in Klaipėdos district municipality, on the Kaunas–Jurbarkas–Šilutė–Klaipėda (kelio ruožo su skir. juosta k. pusė) national road (kilometre 222.70), a Volkswagen Passat ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 36-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (17 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.79‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
