On Sunday, 24 December 2017, in the evening at around 19:00, in Telšių district municipality, Gaudkalnio village, on the Užventis–Varniai national road, an Opel Vectra ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 46-year-old driver of the Opel (26 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (0.50‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
