On Sunday, 18 March 2018, in the afternoon at 16:06, in Pasvalio district municipality, on the Panevėžys–Pasvalys–Ryga main road (kilometre 21.52), a Volvo FH registered in Latvia ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 43-year-old driver of the Volvo (18 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.88‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
