Drunk Volkswagen Passat driver in crash with Skoda on the Dūkštas–Visaginas road

On Saturday, 21 April 2018, in the evening at 20:59, in Ignalinos district municipality, on the Dūkštas–Visaginas national road (kilometre 3), a side collision with neither vehicle turning occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Passat and a Skoda. Five people were injured — the 44-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient), a 17-year-old passenger of the Skoda (treated as an outpatient), a 76-year-old passenger of the Skoda (treated as an outpatient), a 44-year-old passenger of the Skoda (treated as an outpatient) and the 45-year-old driver of the Skoda (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 44-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (20 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. He was drunk (2.05‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was twilight, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
