On Tuesday, 1 January 2019, at night at 0:45, in Kaunas, on Biruliškių street near No. 5, a Mercedes-Benz E 220 CDI hit an obstacle. Four people were injured — a 28-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 26-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 44-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient) and a 22-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 25-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (0.93‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
