Toyota and Opel crash on the Vilnius–Utena road
On Friday, 26 July 2019, in the evening at 17:20, in Molėtų district municipality, Kanapelkos village, on the Vilnius–Utena main road (kilometre 62.70), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a Toyota and an Opel Vectra Station Wagon. One person died — a 6-year-old passenger of the Opel. Five people were injured — the 21-year-old driver of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient), a 10-year-old passenger of the Opel (severely injured, hospitalized), a 25-year-old passenger of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient), a 22-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized) and the 32-year-old driver of the Opel (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the Toyota (3 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. Both drivers were sober.
