The accident was caused by a 27-year-old passenger of the Opel, who committed traffic rule violations that contributed to the accident. He was drunk (1.14‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
