On Saturday, 29 August 2020, in the evening at 21:06, in Panevėžys, on Beržų street, at the junction with J. Basanavičiaus street, a Toyota Avensis hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 29-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized) and a 35-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 54-year-old driver of the Toyota (35 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. A 29-year-old pedestrian was drunk (1.04‰). A 35-year-old pedestrian was drunk (3.31‰). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
