On Sunday, 24 January 2021, in the afternoon at 16:25, in Rietavo municipality, Žadvainų village, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 265), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen GTI and a BMW. Four people were injured — the 16-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (hospitalized), a 69-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient), a 65-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient) and the 38-year-old driver of the BMW (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 16-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to give way when changing direction. He had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident there was freezing rain, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 110 km/h.
