On Sunday, 7 February 2021, in the evening at 19:13, in Kretingos district municipality, on the Salantai–Plateliai–Alsėdžiai regional road (kilometre 0.41), a Toyota RAV4 ran off the road. One person died — the 64-year-old driver of the Toyota. Two people were injured — a 6-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized) and a 10-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 64-year-old driver of the Toyota (27 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
