On Thursday, 6 May 2021, at night at around 4:00, in Šilutės district municipality, Jonikų village, on Piliakalnio street near No. 4, a BMW 320D ran off the road. Two people were injured — the 38-year-old driver of the BMW (hospitalized) and a 43-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 38-year-old driver of the BMW (1 year of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.81‰ blood alcohol). A 43-year-old passenger of the BMW was drunk. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, there was freezing rain, a strong wind was blowing, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
