On Monday, 12 July 2021, in the afternoon at 14:27, in Šilalės district municipality, Petkalnio village, on the Skaudvilė–Upyna–Balsiai regional road (kilometre 8), an Audi A4 Avant ran off the road. One person died — the 33-year-old driver of the Audi (was not wearing a seatbelt). Two people were injured — a 13-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized) and a 17-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 33-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (3.69‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 60 km/h.
