On Wednesday, 1 September 2021, in the morning at around 8:00, in Šilutės district municipality, Balčių village, on Tvenkinio street near No. 9, a traffic accident occurred. The accident involved a Peugeot 406. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 53-year-old driver of the Peugeot, who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (2.22‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
