On Wednesday, 24 November 2021, in the afternoon at 13:43, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 77), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a vehicle and a Mercedes-Benz C 220 CDI. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the driver of a vehicle, who failed to keep a safe distance. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
