On Sunday, 1 January 2023, in the evening at 22:17, in Kupiškio district municipality, on S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno street, an Opel Vectra ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 48-year-old driver of the Opel, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.14‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
