Drunk Mercedes-Benz driver and two other cars crash on Islandijos highway, Kaunas
On Saturday, 18 February 2023, in the evening at 22:35, in Kaunas, on Islandijos highway, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz, a Skoda Octavia and a BMW. Two people died — the 42-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (was not wearing a seatbelt) and the 61-year-old driver of the BMW. One person was injured — a 29-year-old passenger of the Skoda (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 42-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.82‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
