On Friday, 24 February 2023, in the evening at 21:50, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Alytus–Punios šilas regional road (kilometre 6.70), a Mercedes-Benz hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 22-year-old pedestrian (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz, who committed other traffic rule violations. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
