On Friday, 15 September 2023, in the evening at 22:30, in Šakių district municipality, Užpjaunių village, on Novos street, a Volkswagen Passat hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.62‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
