On Sunday, 7 January 2024, in the morning at 6:59, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 84.62), an Audi A4 registered in Latvia ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 34-year-old driver of the Audi, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (3.09‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
