On Thursday, 23 May 2024, in the afternoon at around 15:00, in Joniškio district municipality, on the Joniškis–Linkaičiai–Staneliai–Gruzdžiai regional road (kilometre 20.60), a Volkswagen Golf rolled over. Two people were injured — the 31-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 44-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 31-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.15‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. A 44-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen was drunk (2.13‰). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
