On Monday, 22 July 2024, at night at 4:20, in Kalvarijos municipality, Senosios Radiškės village, on Punsko street near No. 50, a Volkswagen Caddy registered in Ukraine ran off the road. One person died — the 50-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (later died from the injuries). Two people were injured — a 12-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized) and a 8-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 50-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (10 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
