On Friday, 18 October 2024, in the evening at 18:20, in Trakų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 20.80), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Toyota RAV4, a Volkswagen Touran and a Fiat Doblo. One person died — the 49-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (later died from the injuries). Two people were injured — the 54-year-old driver of the Toyota (hospitalized) and a 16-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 54-year-old driver of the Toyota (25 years of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
