On Tuesday, 5 February 2013, in the evening at 21:38, in Tauragės district municipality, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas main road (kilometre 138.12), a Mercedes-Benz 213 ran off the road. The accident was caused by the 43-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (a citizen of Russia) (19 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
