On Sunday, 23 June 2013, at night at 23:31, in Vilkaviškio district municipality, Vartų village, on Beržų street near No. 29, a vehicle hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 42-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by an unidentified person, who committed other traffic rule violations. He fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA).
