On Tuesday, 24 December 2013, in the evening at 17:29, in Lazdijų district municipality, Gilbiečio village, on the Leipalingis–Lazdijai–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 25.50), a Seat Alhambra registered in Great Britain ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Seat (15 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
