On Tuesday, 31 December 2013, in the evening at 22:45, in Kalvarijos municipality, on the Alytus–Simnas–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 56.12), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a BMW 730 and a Volvo FH12 registered in Poland. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 18-year-old driver of the BMW, who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
