On Wednesday, 22 January 2014, in the evening at 18:27, in Tauragės district municipality, on Dariaus ir Girėno street, an Audi A6 hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 13-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized) and a 13-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 41-year-old driver of the Audi (15 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.66‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
