On Friday, 24 January 2014, in the afternoon at around 13:00, in Vilnius, on Birutės street near No. 40B, a BMW 318 hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 85-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the BMW (2 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
