On Tuesday, 4 February 2014, in the evening at 20:04, in Pasvalio district municipality, Meškalaukio village, on the Šiauliai–Pakruojis–Pasvalys national road (kilometre 55.41), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Passat, a Nissan Almera Tino and an Opel Vectra. Three people were injured — the 20-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), the 47-year-old driver of the Nissan (treated as an outpatient) and a 31-year-old passenger of the Nissan (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 20-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.60‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
