On Monday, 17 February 2014, in the morning at 5:40, in Kupiškio district municipality, on the Skapiškis–Pandėlys national road (kilometre 1.55), a Mitsubishi Space Runner hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 49-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by the 31-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi (12 years of driving experience), who violated overtaking rules and failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
