On Sunday, 13 July 2014, in the afternoon at around 15:00, in Klaipėda, on Šilutės pl., at the junction with Smiltelės street, a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved an Opel Vectra, a Mitsubishi Galant and a KIA Motors RIO. Two people were injured — the 35-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi (treated as an outpatient) and a 5-year-old passenger of the Opel (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt, was not in a child seat). The accident was caused by the 36-year-old driver of the Opel (10 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.89‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
