On Tuesday, 9 September 2014, in the evening at 20:48, in Panevėžio city municipality, on Nemuno street near No. 76, a Renault Espace hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people died — a 85-year-old pedestrian and a 84-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries). One person was injured — a 78-year-old pedestrian (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 45-year-old driver of the Renault (19 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He was drunk (1.42‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
