On Thursday, 25 September 2014, in the evening at around 17:00, in Neringos municipality, on the Smiltynė–Nida national road (kilometre 23.16), a Volkswagen Passat registered in Latvia ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 50-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (a citizen of Latvia) (34 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed.
