On Friday, 2 January 2015, at night at 23:49, in Kaišiadorių district municipality, on the Kaišiadorys–Žiežmariai national road (kilometre 4.32), a Volkswagen Passat hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 21-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by the 18-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
