On Friday, 23 January 2015, in the evening at 18:44, in Utenos district municipality, on the Utena–Tauragnai–Kirdeikiai regional road (kilometre 3.15), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Rover 75 and an Audi A6 registered in Great Britain. Two people died — a 14-year-old passenger of the Rover and a 6-year-old passenger of the Rover. Three people were injured — the 32-year-old driver of the Rover (hospitalized), the 30-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized) and a 31-year-old passenger of the Rover (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 32-year-old driver of the Rover (10 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
