On Tuesday, 10 March 2015, in the evening at 19:17, in Zarasų district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis main road (kilometre 158.80), a Fiat Bravo registered in Latvia hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 37-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by the 39-year-old driver of the Fiat (a citizen of Latvia) (9 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
