On Monday, 20 April 2015, in the evening at 20:41, in Šiauliai, on Birutės street near No. 37, a Volkswagen Jetta registered in Estonia hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 56-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (38 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was twilight, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
